Őrség activites by seasons:

Spring

 

Programs and Events:

  • Easter Saturday in Felsőszölnök: Big cannons, traditional celebrations. A true curiosity for city dwellers.
  • Green Pentecost (Szalafő and Pityerszer): Get to know the unique wildlife and culture of Őrség during a fulfilling day. No loud music or flashing lights… Instead, there will be: butterfly hunting, pumpkin seed oil pressing, birdwatching walks, hiking in the forest with boots, bison watching, bird ringing, learning about stream inhabitants, a walk in the meadow orchard, nature games, and a craft market.
  • Log Pulling in Felsőszölnök: A Vendvidék tradition, don’t miss it!

  • Drive a Trabant in Őrség! (Rent a Retro Trabant and drive around Őrség all day!)
  • Cycling: Őrség is perfect for cycling tours, and the spring season is ideal for longer bike rides.
  • Waterfront Activities: Enjoy time spent near natural waters. Some local lakes also offer swimming opportunities.
  • Visiting Local Museums and Galleries: Őrség is home to several interesting museums and galleries showcasing local culture and history, including the Natura 2000 Visitor Center.
  • Discover Village Life: Get to know the life of local villages, visit traditional village houses and farms.

Summer

 

Programs and Events:

  • Őrség Crafts Festival: Held in July or August, where local artisans showcase their work, with demonstrations of various crafts, such as pottery and textile crafts.
  • Local Wine Festivals: Wine festivals are often held in the summer, where you can taste offerings from local wineries.
  • Völgyhídi Fair – Nagyrákos: A celebration of tradition, promoting local values, a craft fair, and cultural entertainment for all ages.
  • Hétrétország Festival: A festival that has developed its own unique “Hétrét” genre: the visit. During “visiting hours,” old village courtyards welcome visitors, offering entry to the workshops of artisans and the studios of artists.
  • Night Owl Tour at Szőcei Marsh: A unique opportunity to explore the nocturnal wildlife of the area.

What to Do:

  • Hiking: As nature awakens, it’s the perfect time for hiking. Explore the beautiful landscapes of Őrség, such as the vineyards in Inner-Őrség or the conservation areas.
  • Cycling: Őrség is ideal for cycling tours, and the spring season is perfect for longer bike rides.

Autum


Programs and Events:

  • Harvest Celebrations: In September and October, harvest festivals await visitors, where local winemakers and farmers showcase their produce and wines.
  • Őrség Pumpkin Festival: Held in October, focusing on pumpkins and pumpkin-based dishes.
  • Mushroom Picking: In the fall, there is the opportunity for mushroom picking in the forests, if you are familiar with the local edible mushrooms.

Winter

 

Programs and Events:

  • Triple Border Hike in Felsőszölnök: Hike with us to the westernmost point of Hungary! Did you know that during this hike, we will cross into three countries? Felsőszölnök is a settlement in the Slovenian-Rába Region, where we hike to the Three Borders Stone in an untouched natural environment. The surrounding forests are home to unique wildlife even in winter: lucky hikers may encounter crested tits, willow tits, yellow-headed kinglets in the pine forests, and Ural owls in the forest clearings.
    Distance: approx. 13 km
    Duration: 4-5 hours
  • Winter Hiking: Enjoy the peaceful winter landscape, take walks in the snowy forests and meadows. Our guests said: “Everything is so quiet, and after the city noise during Advent, this peace was exactly what I needed.”
  • Visiting Local Museums and Galleries: Őrség is home to several interesting museums and galleries that showcase local culture and history, including the Natura 2000 Visitor Center.
